i didnt really have a reaction to the video because i already knew some of the info that was given. i learned that there are more blacks that drop out and that are likely not to succeed than whites. some subjects that were already familiar to me was how many blacks were in jail more than whites.

My overall reaction was not a really shocking reaction because most of the stuff was true . I learned that it is really hard for most black men , but sometimes not even black men but women also. The subjects that were already familiar with me was the drug dealing[like the lil hood life], and gangs.

Drug dealing didnt really affect me its just a known thing going around in my community that shouldnt be happening, because now days you have young kids out here selling drugs.

gangs affect me because they do all the gang violence , like all the shootings , murders. Because a bullet has a no name , cause its been couple of times i couldve been dead . [tear]

I didnt really have a reaction to the video. I learned many things and Honestly forgot. A subject that is familiar to me is the way they still treat black people differently then others. Example its a 70% chance of a black man going too jail then a white person like that isnt right just because we're black they can juss say and do anything they want too doo. It affects me because i dont think its right and its very unfair.

well this film thought me that people do treat you different when you have a dark complexion because people always are stereo types and that it's a harder world when you are African-American because people don't see other than white people a higher class person.

My overall reaction is that black people arent treated right they are juged by the color of their skin and on how they look. Some things that I learned are that not all black people are the same there are some bad ones but there is some good ones too. The one subject that i was familiar with was the subject on how people jugdged black people based on what they hear or see on the tv or hear on the radio. This affects me cause we are all suppose to be treated equally but people dont give chances to people because of the sruff that happens around us.(jobs)

Black in America is a video that introduced me to the cold, hard facts of being an African American living in America. This video covered points that were evident to me, but expanded my point of view on them. This video catered to my need of knowing more about stereotypes that are making our country fall apart and be a lot more resentful towards our fellow man. This documentary showed the lives of many Africa Americans, and how being black affects them, they’re ability to get a job, and they’re chances at doing things that people categorize as "white". One story that was really mind boggling was the story of two brothers, the Dyson’s. Michael Dyson was a light skinned black man who was a professor and his younger brother was a dark skinned black man who was sent to life in prison for murder. When Michael was younger he was a public speaker, while his brother was a drug dealer. The younger brother said that it was all about decisions and he made the wrong ones. He also said that it hurts him to see that Michael is distraught to see him in prison. I think it was brave of him to show his feelings and to say that he regretted make those wrong choices. Overall, I think this was a very intriguing video that showed me the part of Black America that White and/or Corporate America wouldn’t want the public to see.

The things I learned was that even though you have a college degreee some people wouldnt even offer you an job. When you get out of jail and you want to find an job they look at your file, plus they wouldnt hire you at an low paying job. Some of subjects about the racist part was fimialr , and the music business. Blacks always get caught but an white person won't.

i knew most of that stuff already. ive even experienced some.

the things i already knew about were that some black kids that live in a mostly white neighborhood have a hard time fitting in, many blacks students drop out of school and most end up in jail, some get affiliated wiith gangs and sell/buy drugs. i aslo knew that cops will stop young black people just to check & make sure they arent up to no good. im affected because im a black person & i would be mad if a cops stopped me & i wasnt doing anything wrong.. besides you dont see cops stopping white people for no reason. thats about it.

My reaction was that its weird how some people that grow up in the same house and are close to each other have different futures.

I learned that blacks have a less chance than getting a job than a white person. If the black person has NO criminal record and a white person does and they both apply for a spot in a job the white person with the criminal record will most likey get the job.

I was already familiar with the drug dealing thing because they need money and without a job people have to get money Illegally. Some become drug dealers and others steal.

I guess I reacted in a dissapointed kind of way. I feel that people degrade our culture all the time and you would think that the harsh reality of it all would make our culture want to change and would want to portray a better image for themselves. It was hard understanding why people generalize ALL blacks the way they do, and have been doing for these hundreds of years. It inspired me to keep doing me and to never forget who I am and where I came from because I know that it is possible that because I am a black american I can accomplish anything. Nothing is impossible for me because people doubt me and frown upon my background.

It showed me how so many people struggle with discrimination trying to get an education and a reasonable job to support their families. Also, when the fair-skinned man compared himself to his darker-skinned brother, he noticed that it was easier for him because of his skin color. I was aware that being a minority is harder, but I guess I wasn’t as aware as I thought.

My overall reaction of the film "Black in America" is that I got suprised of the amount of "Black" males actually taking responsibility for their children. To me that is REALLY rare, but it must be true. I learned that the darker the people are the less they are treated fairly. I was familiar with "Black" people having a greater percent of breaking laws such as stealing, than "White" people. One example is that there was a Black man at a park spending time and taking care of his son. This a great example of responsability and it proved that even though there is a good amount of people that wont take responsibility there are some people that set a good example.

To be real, i wasnt really surprised about the show Black in America because i know what goes on this world just like everbody else does. I know that if u go to a job interview, mostly the white person will get the job over the black man. I know that if a black man lives in a white neighbor, his neighbor will be suspicious of him. We often have these sterotypes about Black people, If we dont play basketball, football, know how to sing or rap, we cant do nothing. I know that once you go to jail and get a felony, your life is basically over, especially for a blakc man.

my overall reaction to the video is that many people choose to sterotype others based on what they hear, instead of actually getting to know the person. i learned that if we try hard enough we can do anything and be anything we want. i was already familiar with the fact that many black men end up in jail, on drugs, and in gangs. they also end up being the tool of their own destruction.

well ithink maybe to show people the good and bad things their is for them to do.
well i learned that plack people are real nice and that some are real bad cause they make bad choices.
well most of them because you see them doing things every day in life.
like people sealing drugs you see that in the streets. like killing people in the streets you see that to .

i didnt really have a reaction to "Black in America" because eveything that they show in that film happens here in Inglewood. and mainly its worse here in Inglewood. i didnt learn anything because i already about all the struggles of living as an african-american so i didnt quite learn anything. everything was already familiar to me. i know alot of people who live like that, who struggle everyday, who work hard just to live. so everything was familiar and the film was cool.

I didnt really have an reaction, i knew it was hard for black men to get jobs but i didn tknow that it got to the point where it was that bad. I see now that when i get older i will have to present myself in a well way in i really want a good job, which i do. Also, i already knew that alot of black men were in jail, but i feel that half of the men in jail are innocent.

I didn't really have a surprising reaction to what they showed in the film. Most of the information was something I already knew; growing up in the neighborhood we're in, we get a better-than-average look at how the world really is. Our country used to be run by only white males, and now we're actually starting to see some change. In most places though, it really won't make much of a difference, like here. One example was the man who had been on a job-hunt for months, and when he filled out an online application, they asked him to come to the store for an interview. When he got there, they told him to leave, probably because they noticed he was black. From my point of view, this country grew up prejudiced, and that might just be the way it'll stay.

My overall reaction was not a shocking reaction because i knew some of that stuff already. I learned that it is really hard for most black men,7 EVEN some black women.

some subjects that were already familiar to me was the drug dealing & gangs & how more blacks were in jail than whites.

i think that the video was very goood because we learned a little more about how african americans have more stuggles because they have to face different things, i learned that after all ur skin color shouldnt hold u back because if u try to achieve something ur eventually going to get it like some people in the video did.

There lives and stories are great because of the things that they been through also the continuous times they have been in racism, this story called black in america is a wonderful video that everyone should know about.
