I think this quote means that if they try their best then maybe that was their hardest and they might or might not become a natural leader. One example is they got an F in math they try really hard and bring it up to a C maybe that was their hardest. Another example is say they have a D in history if you bring it to a C+ maybe that was the best you can do.
Joe Dimaggio is trying to say that determination is the way to go, you can influence others by doing your best and encouraging them to do their best as well and they will acknowledge it by declaring you their leader because you never give up and you just keep trying to do your best.
If a person is always their best they become a leader because they can influence others to do their best. Also they are setting a positive example for others to follow.
I think this quote means that's if you are trying your hardest then you are a natural leader. For example if you are faling in your classes then you need to try your hardest and try to pass the class. For another example If you are playing baseball and you can't hit the ball good then you just need to practice and try your hardest.

i think that hes saying that a person that gives it all they got on what their doing usually makes that person a person who you can trust that they will do what they have to do and do it as best they can.this statement is true because for example in sports when you pick a leader who do you pick a person that goes out their and always tries his/her best or someone that just goes out there and plays.

This is true because in order to be someone succesful you need to be a leader.usually the people that try their best know what to do and are the ones that are the leaders because they know what to do and do it well. I think that this means that when you do your best you become some important and people see how good you do in life so they are inspired by you and they try to become someone improtant too. I think that this statement is true because you can become a leader or her by just doing something that comes from the heart. Also just by always keeping in mind that you can make a difference by doing something small.
